What have I done?

Someone recently asked me how I got to where I am at this point in my weight loss journey.

This question led me to start thinking, “What have I done?”

No, seriously! WHAT HAVE I DONE?

I’m losing my sanity over here!! Okay, this post has nothing to do with my kids…Sanity can come back for a few minutes at least!!

First of all I want to be honest and straight forward and say;

WHAT WORKED FOR ME MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! I AM NOT A DOCTOR, A TRAINER, OR ANYTHING ELSE ANY WHERE CLOSE TO OFFICIAL!
Now that that is out there…if you are still reading…here is what I have done in the past four months to lose 40 pounds!
Sorry to disappoint you but there is no magic answer to losing weight! There is no pill or special thing that you can do and lose weight!
The VERY first thing that I did to lose my weight was make the decision to
CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE!
This is harder than you would think!
 
You really and truly have to decide that you want to lose weight, even if it isn’t easy!
Even if you have to turn away all of those wonderful foods you so don’t want to turn away!
If you are serious about it there are a few things I want you to know: When I say “diet” I mean changing your lifestyle…not a fad diet.
  • Diets CAN start on ANY day of the week! Whatever today is…if you want it…START NOW!
  • Diets don’t go away for holidays! Just because the 4th is coming up doesn’t mean you should wait or take a “break day” that day.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself! If you know that you LOVE coffee…don’t expect yourself to cut it out completely…you would be setting yourself up to fail.
  • There are no EXCUSES…only choices!

For me…I didn’t start some crazy fad diet, I didn’t cut my calories to some insane amount, I didn’t make myself sick every time I ate (sadly I know people that CHOOSE this as a weight loss option….), and I didn’t take some pill and wait for it to drop off of me.

I DID watch what I ate. I stopped allowing myself sweets and junk foods. The occasional sweet/junk is okay. If you completely cut yourself off you will freak out..or at least I did. If I don’t want to fall off the wagon I have to allow myself to “splurge” every now and again. Just not every day…or even every week!
 
I have gone to numerous parties where I had to defend my choice to NOT eat cake! People kept telling me “Oh it won’t hurt…just one piece!” These are the kind of people that don’t seem to realize that if you eat it at every party you go to it adds up!
Sorry, I got off on a rant! Anyways…basically watch what you eat and how much of it! I did this by, generally, serving myself on a saucer instead of a normal size plate. This made me keep my portion size down. I also went for colorful foods NO I DON’T MEAN FRUIT LOOPS! such as fruits and veggies. This meant I was eating rather healthy.
Food wise that is all that I did until recently when I took the Summer Challenge where I added drinking only water to my diet. I will admit that in the week that I have been doing this I have lost 2 pounds!
Now for the part no one likes to hear….
I WORKED OUT!
 
There I said it!
Yep…sorry girls! I actually got off my lazy bum and worked out!
DAILY!
I did give myself a break on the weekends, however, by break I mean all I did was walk 2 miles on the elliptical instead of everything else I’m about to list for you!
Weekdays…I worked out to the point that some days I ended up nauseous…I didn’t mean to…I was just that out of shape!
I know what you’re thinking, “But Becca…ROUND is a shape!!” I know…I know…it’s just not the shape I wanted to be lol
 
My weekday workout schedule:
Monday-
  • Jilllian Michaels: Ripped in 30 this dvd is literally 30 minutes of “HE double hockey sticks”!
  • Interval Run using Couch to 5k program on my phone.

Tuesday-

  • Jillian Michaels: Killer Abs haha did I say the other was bad?!? What was I thinking? I can barely bend after this one!
  • 30 minutes on the elliptical/treadmill

Wednesday-

  • Jillian Michaels: Ripped in 30 it’s generally not as bad this go around….no seriously!
  • Interval Run using Couch to 5k program on my phone.

Thursday-

  • Jillian Michaels: Yoga yeah…umm…I’m not sure what kind of fraeking yoga this is…but holy crap! I about die every time! It isn’t that whole get in a pose and relax type yoga…oh no! This is moving yoga…yes you read that right…MOVING YOGA!
  • 30 minutes on the elliptical/treadmill

Friday-

  • Jillian Michaels: Ripped in 30 after yoga…this is a piece of cake!
  • Interval Run using Couch to 5k program on my phone.
That my dear readers…is how I lost 40 lbs in 4 months!
 
Was it easy?
Oh heck no!
Was it worth it?!?
At the time I would have said no…but seeing my before and after pictures
yes you need to do those…I promise they will help motivate you
yes it was very worth it!
Tomorrow is another weigh in and measurement day for me, I do it at the end of every month! Fingers crossed that I see some major results! I know that I have in the pound area…now let’s see if the inches have changed as well!
