Sit Around Saturday: Myth Busting Mommy

YAY!! Sit Arounds are a HIT!

You guys all seemed to really enjoy reading about your favorite bloggers, so here it is…the much awaited edition #2!

Today we will be sitting around with another one of my favorites (I have soo many!) Amber from

Okay, you guys know the drill, before I can get to the awesomely hilarious great good stuff (that totally made sense right?) I have to cover the basics for those silly people that haven’t check out her site yet!

Seriously…no joking around head on over there like NOW right after you finish reading this and check out all of the amazing myths she has laid to rest or proven to be true! I absolutely adore her blog and can’t wait to keep reading more and more! You won’t be disappointed I promise!

Describe your blog in 15 words or less!
Debunking mommy myths and old wives’ tales that are so prevalent in today’s parenting world.
When did you start blogging? How did you come up with your blogs name?
I started blogging in June (like as in last month), so I’m a newbie.  I chose the name “Myth Busting Mommy” because that’s what I hope to do with this blog.
We have totally been blogging for about the same time! I started May 20th! Gotta love being newbies! There is so much to learn!

What is something about yourself that most of your readers don’t know?
I used to work with opera companies around the country as a stage manager.  It was fun to travel all the time, but I’m happy to be settled in Chicago now.
I’ve never even seen an opera…I bet that was a really cool job though! From opera to blogging! Who would have guessed!

How do you spend your time when you aren’t blogging?
I’m a stay-at-home mom to two toddlers, so I spend most of my time quelling tantrums and fetching snacks. During naptime, if I’m not writing, I love to read.  Mostly non-fiction, but I love to read some fiction in the summer.  My guilty pleasure is the Sookie Stackhouse books.
I know what you mean! I spend a ton of my time doing the exact same things! I am a major book worm…but I read a lot more “crap” than good stuff lol I love a good paranormal romance!

What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Being a newbie, I’m still finding my footing a bit.  It’s all trial and error.  So far, so good, but I have loads to learn still.
What do you find most rewarding about blogging?
I love it when people take the time to read what I’ve written.  And it’s even better when they leave a comment, “like” my post on Facebook, or tweet about it.  It’s like a little virtual hug.
I love that! A virtual hug…I never thought of it that way but that is so how comments make me feel!

What post are you most proud of so far? Link it please.
I’m pretty proud of a post I wrote about stay-at-home mom’s trying to keep a clean house because it got more traffic than I imagined possible.  But as far as content, I’m most proud of my first post about women who have physical difficulty breastfeeding.  I think it’s often unspoken that many women are unable to breastfeed (I’m one of them) and those women often feel shamed because of it.
Pick two of your favorite blogs to read that you would like me to invite to do Sit Around Saturday!

Ask me one question…any question at all and I have to answer it no matter what!
What’s your favorite kind of dinosaur?
Hmm….well it is sooo not the T-rex…that poor fella can’t even reach his own…oh wait PG never mind! My favorite type of dinosaur…well I keep wanting to think of one that is like me and I keep coming back to the Triceratops because, like me, he’s short, plump, and a little bit horny! lol
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
A lot of toddler food – cheese sticks, milk, fruit.  Leftover kabobs my hubby made last night.  Some pork chops I’m going to make for dinner tonight.  Oh, and wine.  Mmmm…wine.
MMMM Wine…I so can’t wait til this water diet is over! I miss my wine!!

If your blog was a dessert, what would it be and why?
Dark chocolate pecan pie.  A little serious, pretty rich (with information), and just a little nutty.
Check out the end of this post for the recipe!

If you could get rid of one state in the US what would it be and why?
Wyoming?  I’ve been there and it’s nice enough, but it has the smallest population of all of the states.  I figure I’ll anger the smallest number of people if I got rid of it.  (I have to be diplomatic if I’m trying to build a blog audience, no?) 🙂
Hehe…okay so when I added this question (which I found from a list of silly interview questions) I so did not consider losing readers over the answer lol However, your answer is pretty good! 🙂

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
About how weird it is not to be with the kids.  I keep looking in the back seat expecting to see them.  Yeah, I’m not away from them much.
I honestly don’t think I have been alone in my car in the past year at least!! But I know when it’s me and my husband and the girls are missing I always keep checking. lol

What song best describes you? Why?
At this moment, “I Need A Vacation” from the soundtrack of Pumpboys and Dinettes describes me pretty well. Because, to quote the song, ”I need a vacation, like nobody’s business…”
If you were a star wars/star trek (you pick) character who would you be and why?
My hubby and I just finished re-watching Star Trek: Enterprise (the TV show), so I’m going to choose Ensign Hoshi Sato.  She was unsure of herself at first and then ended up having more strength and knowledge than she imagined.
At least you’re not a red shirt! Those guys never last long and are totally expendable! 🙂 Us moms are the farthest from red shirts!

If you were a cartoon character who would you be and why?
Lisa Simpson.  She is always trying to do what she thinks is right, even if it’s not the most popular decision.  I continuously try to have that kind of courage.
Take a moment and write a short rant & ramble post for us. It can be any topic that you would like…just keep it legal please!
Ranty/ Ramble Post
I don’t really write rant posts.  Actually, I don’t write without an outline and verified sources.  So I’m sticking my neck out just a bit to try this whole rant thing.  Just to see how it feels.
Okay.  What should I rant about?  Hmmmm…  This is my big opportunity to write a big, ranting post so I need to write it about something that really makes me angry.  Something that really gets under my skin.  Ooooo…like spelling!
Spelling in the English language (also the only language I know, sadly) is super complicated.  I mean, if you need a rhyme to remember that “i” goes before “e” except after “c” in your language, the spelling is too hard.  And what about silent letters!  Those really make me mad.  Did the creators of the English language think one day, “You know, I’d really like to keep grades a little lower on elementary school spelling tests.  But, how?  I know! Silent letters!”
How about those stupid words that look the same but sound different?? How is that even possible! Really, it’s like someone said…”hmm…how can we make people look stupid…I got it! Spelling!”

PS you left off part of the rhyme! Don’t forget “unless it says “A” as in neighbor and weigh. Don’t forget their, weird, seizure..and so many more that don’t fit either one!!!!

Okay, that’s a pretty silly rant.  And I’ll probably lose all the non-writing geeks by the rhyme.  I need something with more grit.  What else can I rant about?  I’ve got it!  Dum-dum suckers.
Why do they not just make giant bags of blue and red colored suckers?  That’s all my daughter will eat anyway.  And why do they have to include brown ones?  Root beer sounds like a good flavor in theory, but brown candy is just not appealing to a 2-year-old when other more brilliant colors are up for grabs.  So then I end up eating the root beer and dulce de leche suckers at the end of the bag.  I wouldn’t want them to go to waste after all.
Am I really ranting about Dum-Dums?  My one rant post, possibly ever, and I’m complaining about the color of suckers.  C’mon, Amber, dig deep.  Think of something truly annoying.  Something really worthy of The Rant. Think!!
I’ve got it!  Something really rant-worthy, current, and edgy.  A rant to be remembered by.  A rant to top all rants!  I mean, can you believe the nerve of…
Wait!  Oh, no.  I’ve already written over 300 words!  That’s a whole post.  No edgy, topical, ranty genius.  No chance to “stick it to the man”.  I guess this is just a ramble post after all. Oh well.  I guess I’m just not meant to rant.  So, I’ll be taking my root beer sucker then and get back to checking the spelling on the latest post on my site. (Back to the comfort of outlines and sources.  Ahhhh…)

Chocolate Pecan Pie
WARNING: I’m an awful cook…but hey this is one I’ve done in the past for parties!
I promise…there were no fatalities!

Pre-made pie crust I have NEVER been able to get a home-made pie crust to turn out right.
2 cups of pecan halves
1/2 Stick of butter (softened)
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
Bottle of chocolate syrup You could always do the “real cook” thing and buy the pieces of chocolate and melt them….
1 tbsp all purpose flour
1/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/3 cup dark corn syrup
1/4 tsp salt
  1. Pre-heat oven to 325.
  2. Mix together flour, pecan halves, and chocolate syrup (or if you’re being fancy and using the real chocolate melt that and mix it in now)
  3. Beat the butter and brown sugar in a bowl until well blended.
  4. Add the eggs.
  5. Mix in the corn syrup, vanilla, and salt. Blend well!
  6. Stir in pecan mixture.
  7. Pour it all into the pie crust.
  8. Bake for about 45 minutes The center will still be a little jiggly, but a tooth-pick should come out with no chocolate if stuck in the center.
  9. Let it cool for about an hour and enjoy!
See this one was actually pretty much home-made!! Hope you enjoy it!

Alright guys! I need my big ol’ slice of
